Field Notes: A Beginning

Field Notes is where we keep what life teaches us while we’re busy creating it.

These are fragments of real days, the sounds, the weather, the arguments, the small victories.

Each note captures a moment that shaped how we see Wild & Soft, not as an idea, but as a way of being.

Here, we write to stay close to what’s real, to notice the wonder that often goes unseen.

This is our fieldwork in being human – wild, soft, and somewhere in between.

Soft Mornings

Mornings on the farm arrive gently.

Birdsong wakes us, and Kiara’s paw at the door is our cue to rise.
Outside the air is cool and crisp, the dew still holding on.

In those moments, we hold on too, and call this soft place home.

Some beginnings, belonging doesn’t ask for effort, it just arrives.

Her Wild Gifts

Our mornings have a rhythm: breathe, write, stretch, move.
Kiara has her own, a ritual older than us, written into her bones.

She disappears into the fields, returns with pride between her teeth – mouse, lizard, once a tiny gosling we still talk about.

We warn each other:
“Mouse, mouse, mouse” or “Door, door, door”, half laughing, half bracing.
She wants praise, not panic, a thank-you for her wild devotion.

Once, we tried to save a mouse.
Her look of betrayal said more than words.
How could we deny a creature her nature and trade it for pellets from a bag?

Her wildness is honest. Ours is still learning.

By the time the sun is high, we’re both sweating,
and home, for a moment, feels truly wild.

Where This Grew

Wild & Soft wasn’t planned on a whiteboard.

It grew here, from what stayed in our hands,
from lessons that hurt but held,
from the ache that said, try again, but together this time.

From farm heat that slows thought into clarity, the wind that rearranges everything, and the mess and beauty of a place that doesn’t apologise for itself.

This land grows things fiercely – ideas, people, beginnings.
We’re growing with it.

Finding the Middle

Two city people, one life, two (very different) instincts.
Some days it sparks. Some days it stings.

Harmony isn’t matching.
It’s meeting.

The leap, and the wait.
The wild, and the soft.
The version of us that lives somewhere in the middle.

Our home feels the same – mountains rising wild against soft, wide waters.
Contrast turning into balance.

Quiet Choices

We think often of that first night when Kiara came to the door and simply stayed.
No demand. No need. Just presence.

We try to live up to that.

Now our days flow imperfect, but real:
work beside rest, silence beside play, annoyance beside affection.

This life can drive you mad or bring you peace. Most days, it brings both. We choose which one to follow.

What the Wild Taught Us

We create for a feeling – that moment when everything aligns for a breath and the world feels right again.

The wild teaches clarity.
The soft teaches warmth.
Together, they teach belonging.

We weren’t born for farm life, but somehow this is our ground now.
We’re learning to stand on it together.

The wild and the soft aren’t opposites, but two names for the same kind of love,
the kind that begins right where we are.

Your Beginning

Home can be a doorway, a heartbeat, a moment that settles the body.

What does it feel like for you right now –
a place, a person, a rhythm, or something you’re still searching for?
